A key worry about hosting events is always “will anyone turn up?”. It’s good to think very early about how you will advertise the event, both online and in the real world. We won’t leave you unsupported here though! Below is a selection of resources that we will provide in the coming weeks:
A web page for your event where you can sign people up, describe the event and provide key details. These will be included in the main OpenCon site.
Publicity through our social media accounts.
Professional, customisable posters which you can use on-campus.
Photos and graphics you can use on social media to advertise the event.
If you request this option, we can e-mail any OpenCon applicants listed in our database as located in your area with information about your event.

At this time we can’t directly support satellite event grants, however we can provide limited support and advice in fundraising. Most event hosts are able to cover their own costs through local or institutional sponsors, or incur very minimal costs. We hope the other resources we provide help reduce the need to raise money, or at the very least give hosts more time to dedicate to fundraising. Open Access Resources
Open Access Button: Add the button to your browser and click when you encounter a paywall. OA Button will search for open access versions of the paywalled article. If none are found, OA Button emails the authors to ask them to make a copy available.
Directory of Open Access Journals: Online directory cataloguing Open Access journals
SHERPA/RoMEO: useful database of publishers' policies on copyright and self-archiving
ROARMap: searchable registry tracking Open Access mandates and policies that exist around the world. The registry includes institutional and university policies, and the site has data visualizations on the number of Open Access policies worldwide.
